Just Say “Snow Day”

“Schools and offices are closed today due to inclement weather,” announced Superintendent of Schools Brian Osborne via his robo-call at 4: 57 yesterday morning.

Simplicity marks the strongest messages — Not dumbing down, but using the briefest, most accurate language possible to convey the essence of your message. It’s particularly important at 4:57am.

Next time, just say “snow day.”

  • Superbly said!!

(As a Boston parent who has experienced four 5am calls in the past 30 days.)

  • Great point, Nancy. I think we sometimes get too caught up in what we’re trying to say, and forget that a simple, direct message is often much more effective.
