About the Client
StoryBuilder is the home of StoryCAD, the premier fiction writing software. It is a free writing tool developed to support the outlining needs of writers, such as organizing plots, developing characters, and worldbuilding.
As a nonprofit, they are committed to providing such tools for free public use with a focus on community engagement and active participation with the greater online writing community.
The Challenge
Before they came to Getting Attention, StoryBuilder ran their Ad Grant account with a different Ad Grant management service provider. Their main goal for the Grant was to encourage more users to download StoryCAD.
Building wider usage for the software was the priority because it meant better product development and more traction for their mission. They knew that if more people engaged with StoryCAD, they could use feedback and user experience to improve the software’s features, encourage more contributors and developers to join their team, grow their long-term support base for donations, and ultimately, motivate more people to write.
However, the previous agency’s results did not align with their goals and expectations. The StoryBuilder team felt that the previous provider was not listening to their priorities, which was holding the organization back from reaching their goals with the Ad Grant.
StoryBuilder came to Getting Attention because they knew that our expertise and hands-on approach could help them achieve their Ad Grant goals.

Upon partnering with StoryBuilder, we immediately got to work auditing the existing data in their Ad Grant account and started restructuring campaigns to focus more on software downloads, their most meaningful bottom-line metric.
We did this by directing more users to the website’s product page and creating site links geared toward StoryCAD downloads and community participation. We also better distributed the $10,000 monthly budget to provide their most important campaigns with the funds needed to bring in their most important conversions. On top of that, we also made it a point to establish clear communication and frequent touchpoints with the StoryBuilder team to ensure our team was continuously focused on StoryBuilder’s key outcomes.
Through our partnership, StoryBuilder was able to increase its average number of conversions from 113 to 1.62K. Of these, 90% were software downloads. Because of this increase, StoryBuilder was able to garner more users for StoryCAD and collect enough data to continuously develop their software.
By working with Getting Attention, StoryBuilder was able to use the Ad Grant to better capture results that move the needle for their organization.
