Get Your Nonprofit Taglines Ready—The Taggies Are Back

So many of you have been asking that I wanted to let you know a.s.a.p.: The Nonprofit Tagline Awards (a.k.a. The Taggies) are coming back this summer. Great Words Promoting Good Causes!

This will be the fourth awards program, and I’m  thrilled about it: Because I believe strongly that  a strong tagline does double-duty — working to extend your organization’s name and mission, while delivering a focused, memorable and repeatable message to your base. It’s one of your most effective marketing tools, but a GettingAttention survey showed that 72% of nonprofit organizations don’t have a tagline or rate theirs as performing poorly.

Last cycle’s 2,700 award entries (organizational, program/service, event and campaign taglines) were a bounty of skillful messaging and I expect this year’s entries to be equally strong.  Take a look at the 2010 Nonprofit Tagline Award winners; they are powerful models for your organization’s taglines (and overall messaging).

Here’s what I suggest you do right now to ensure you’re ready when the awards open for business: Dive into 4,800+ nonprofit taglines and the guide to making yours great, with the Nonprofit Tagline Database and Tagline Report.

The Tagline Database is a great tool for crafting effective messages, and so easy to use. I was seeking tagline models used by associations and drilled down by Organization Category and Tagline Type to find just what I needed.

Keep posted for more details as we finalize sponsorships and our volunteer judges. I can’t wait to see your entries in June.

P.S. After the last awards cycle in 2010, I decided to shift the schedule to bi-annual—it’s a huge amount of work for a sole proprietor like me, even with the tremendous help of our sponsors (still finalizing those for this award cycle) and judges.
